Star Wars Challenge: Use the Force

Connecting with the Force includes a certain kind of practice – the practice of mindfulness. This means noticing how you are feeling and what is going on around you in real time. Most of the time we are in a rush, overwhelmed, and stuck inside our own minds. So then, how can we practice using the Force?

Step 1) take a slow breath.
Step 2) realize where you are. It might seem silly but we are often so caught up in our thoughts that we are either living in the future or the past, completely ignoring the present
Step 3) scan your body. Are you hurt? Hungry? Sad? Tired? What do you need at this moment?
Step 4) see if you can give your body the support it needs in at least a small way – eat a snack, take a two minute stretch break, text a friend
Step 5) look around you and notice the beauty that you see. Beautiful scenery, decorations, weather, painting, seeing people laughing, something beautiful that you can observe and be a part of even from afar
Step 6) name one thing you are grateful for at that very moment and why

Sometimes when we are in the middle of chaos, be it a work or school environment, or an intergalactic war, we may think that we do not have time to connect with the Force. However, it the middle of chaos is when we need it most. If you don’t believe me, Yoda ask you should.
