10 years of Superhero Therapy

It’s been exactly ten years since I started this Superhero Therapy website and over 11 years since I started doing this work.

My first ever post on the Superhero Therapy website was about the San Diego Comic Con. It was about Geek Therapy and the intersection of pop culture and mental health. It was about the work of Josué Cardona and Travis Langley.

It is wild how much can change in 10 years:

  • Superhero Therapy is now used all over the world.
  • I’ve now taught a few hundred seminars & webinars spanning over 5 continents
  • I have published 10 books, two more are coming out this year and I have just finished writing my 13thbook
  • I have contributed chapters to 17 psychology books

I honestly could not have dreamt of this when I was publishing my first post 10 years ago.

Other changes happened too in my personal life:

  • l got divorced
  • I got remarried.
  • I am a stepmom to two wonderful boys.
  • There’s a war going on in my home county, which shattered me and continues to bring me to my knees
  • At the same time, the world has been coming together to help Ukraine, and I’m so grateful for their support

Over the last ten years, I lost myself and found myself. I realized that I cannot run from my pain and trauma the way I used to. I found out that I was using productivity and overfunctioning to shield me from the pain of my trauma but that this was not something that I could sustain.

I also learned that I will always feel lonely until I learn to see myself and make time for myself.

I learned that for me, as an empath, an introvert, and a highly sensitive person, taking quiet alone time to read, rest, and recharge is crucial for my mental and physical health.

And that all of my needs are okay.

I learned that not everything I do a try will be successful and that’s okay. I learned to do it anyway.

I learned that some people will love what you put out there and some will criticize your work.

Put it out there anyway.

To anyone reading this:

I have learned that each and every one of us has a gift—a purpose, something we’re meant to give to this world or share with others. And the most important part of that gift is you.

YOU ARE THE GIFT.

You have what it takes to make the world a better place.

And from the bottom of my heart, thank you for all the love and healing you bring into this world. Thank you for being wonderful.
